Sclerotherapy
Say goodbye to spider veins with Sclerotherapy, a minimally invasive treatment restoring beauty and confidence, one injection at a time.
What Is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat varicose and spider veins. It involves injecting a solution directly into the affected veins, causing them to collapse and fade over time. This non-invasive treatment is effective in improving the appearance of veins, reducing discomfort, and enhancing circulation in the treated areas.
How Does Sclerotherapy Work?
Sclerotherapy works by injecting a special solution directly into the targeted varicose or spider veins. The solutions used at RegenesisMD include Thromboject® and Sclerodex®. These solutions irritate the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and stick together. Over time, the treated vein is reabsorbed by the body and fades from view. Blood flow naturally reroutes to healthier veins nearby, improving circulation and reducing the appearance of the treated veins.
What To Expect During A Treatment
During the sclerotherapy treatment, you’ll be comfortably positioned, typically lying down, while your RegenesisMD physician administers the sclerosing solution. We will carefully examine the veins to be treated and mark the injection sites so you know what area is being addressed. Using a fine needle, we will gently insert the needle into the targeted veins and inject the sclerosing solution.
As the solution enters the veins, you may feel a mild tingling, burning, or stinging sensation at the injection sites. This discomfort is generally tolerable and fades quickly as the injection proceeds. The sensation varies from person to person and depends on the sensitivity of the area being treated and the individual’s pain threshold.
Throughout the procedure we will proceed methodically, injecting small amounts of the solution at precise locations along the vein. They may massage the area gently to distribute the solution and facilitate its action on the vein walls.
While the injections are ongoing, you’ll be encouraged to communicate any discomfort or sensations you experience. They will adjust their technique or provide additional numbing measures if needed to ensure your comfort during the treatment.
Overall, the sclerotherapy injections themselves are relatively quick, and the discomfort is usually minimal and transient. We strive to make the experience as comfortable as possible while effectively treating the targeted veins. After the injections, you can expect to resume your daily activities without significant interruption, allowing the treated areas to begin their healing process. Depending on the size of the area being treated, a compression dressing may be applied to enhance the results of the treatment.
